Welcome!! As a Vancouver Counsellor I wanted to share a little about me as I step into the next chapter of JL Counselling Vancouver.
Joining RAW Collective feels like a full-circle moment. I’ve been walking alongside clients as a Vancouver counsellor for some time now. This move represents something deeper: a commitment to working in a space that honours collaboration, community, and the kind of relational care I value most.
I didn’t always know I wanted to become a counsellor, but life has a way of guiding us exactly where we’re meant to be — even when the road there is anything but straightforward. Coming to this work was not only through study and training, rather through lived experience — through the kind of chapters that shape us from the inside out.
Life started in a difficult way for me. My upbringing taught me early about pain, complexity, and how people sometimes hurt each other. Not because they wanted to but rather out of their own unhealed wounds. In my teens, I rebelled — hard. It was my way of pushing back against a world that often felt unpredictable and unsafe. At this point, I found myself stepping into a version of life that looked “right” on the outside: the job, the responsibilities, the roles society told me I should want.
But inside, something didn’t feel aligned.
Years of silently struggling with infertility and the heartbreak of letting go of the dream of biological children cracked me open. Therapy helped me begin the work of grieving — and eventually, growing. A divorce followed. Lots more therapy. Endless learning and of course unlearning. And then I walked away from a 17-year career that no longer fit for me, into something that felt more true.
I found counselling in that place — raw, searching, rebuilding — and it felt like home.

I believe the best therapists are those who have done (and continue to do) their own deep work.
This path has taught me that healing isn’t linear. That grief has many faces, and that people are profoundly resilient when given the space to be heard, seen, and supported.
Curiosity, authenticity, and trust — these are not just words to me. They’re the foundation of how I live and how I hold space for others.
When I’m not working, I find nourishment in the simple things: reading, painting, spending time with the people I love. I’m deeply drawn to the ocean, to forests, and to the wild creatures that inhabit them — a reminder that we are all part of something bigger. More mysterious, and often more beautiful than we realize. Travel has also been a source of perspective for me — a reminder that there are many ways to live a life.

To anyone who’s walking through a hard season, who feels lost, tired, or in-between — I want you to know this: it’s okay not to have it all figured out. You don’t have to be “fixed” to be worthy of support. Sometimes just being met where you are is the beginning of everything.
As I step into this next chapter within RAW Collective, I do so with gratitude. The experiences that shaped me, for the clients who trust me with their stories. For the opportunity to keep growing in community with other like-minded practitioners.
