By Noel Morton – Counsellor, Outdoor Enthusiast, and Former Paramedic with 19+ Years on the Front Lines.

A Victoria Therapist’s personal reflection on slowing down, grounding, and finding a place where your system can breathe again.
When I moved to Vancouver Island in 2020, it wasn’t just a change of scenery — it was a response to something inside me asking for a slower, steadier way of living. After years on the front lines, my body was already telling me it was time for a shift.
You might recognize that feeling — the quiet pull inside you that hints something in your life is asking for a different rhythm, even before you have the words for it.
Leaving the mountains of North Vancouver wasn’t simple. That place built a lot of who I am — the hiking, the snowboarding, the mountain biking, the constant pull toward being outside. But the Island offered a different kind of grounding, and I felt myself moving toward it.
Back in 2016, I lived in the Victoria area for six months during my Advanced Care Paramedic residency. What stood out then — and still does now — was the closeness, the steady feeling of community.
And I’ll admit it: being able to drive slow like a grandpa without anyone losing their mind felt like confirmation that this was the right place for me.
Now, I live on a lake. My mornings usually start with dog walks under tall trees, the kind of simple rhythm that helps your system ease into the day. In the summer, stand-up paddle boarding has a way of resetting everything inside me.
When I need movement that wakes me up in a different way, the Jordie Lunn Bike Park across the lake is always there. Nature has always been where I find my footing. Sometimes slow and intentional, sometimes fast and full of adrenaline — both are ways of coming home to myself.
Becoming a Victoria therapist felt like a natural continuation of my own grounding. What matters most to me is supporting you exactly where you are. No expectations, no pressure to arrive feeling open or “ready.”
You might feel unsure, burnt out, carrying anger or rage. Worn down from emotional collapse, depression, or the ongoing stress of survival. Readiness isn’t a requirement. You can come exactly as you are and move through things at a pace that feels manageable for you.
Every session, every moment, continues to shape how I show up — and you deserve a space where you can explore your inner world without judgment or urgency.
You don’t have to carry any of this alone. If it feels right, you can reach out, and we can explore a way forward together — at a pace that feels manageable for you.
I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
